Short Trips: Cedar
Key, FL
I think that this
was the most pleasant trip to date. We had great weather, a brand new
plane (190hh TT) and an excellent adventure. The water is beautiful from
above, and the islands and salt flats are fascinating. Lots of good sight
seeing all the way there and back.
We even saw a nuclear
power plant, but due to post 9/11 circumstances, we shot no pictures of
it. It was very interesting, but I didn't want to get too close to it
and was careful to stay well clear of the area. I also don't relish the
thought of flying through that steam cloud, either.

This is the
end of the runway. Thats' the Gulf of Mexico behind us. It was pretty
cold when we took off, but very nice once the day warmed up a little.
It's about 55 degrees in this shot. Pretty gusty winds, though.

Julie
tromped out to this palm tree growing out beyond the guard rail.
It's about hip deep when you're walking in it. |

We
mainly shot this one so we could prove we've been there. That's not
the FBO behind us. There isn't one here. That's a private resident's
house. This wind sock is about all there is to it.
There's enough
room on the aprin to tie down four or five planes.
Check that crosswind
out. It was between gusts in this shot. Almost 90 degrees, though.
On the trip
back, we had strong tail winds and cross winds, so it got kind of
bumpy. Wasn't too bad, though, and it made the overall trip more
exciting. We made a perfect short landing at Tampa North, and drove
the Xterra home. We logged 1.9 hours of cross country, and had a
great time.
Scarriest part
of thye trip was going to Walmart on a Saturday to get the pictures
developed! |
